Book the right TOEFL: from 21 January 2026, a TOEFL iBT score counts for an Australian student visa only if you selected Taking TOEFL for Australia when you registered. Get that registration choice wrong and the score is invalid for your application however high it is — check the accepted tests and scores on the Department of Home Affairs Subclass 500 page before you book.

No CoE, no application. A Confirmation of Enrolment is required at lodgement and an offer letter is not an alternative — applying from outside Australia has always needed a CoE, and since 1 January 2025 the onshore letter-of-offer concession is gone too. Lodge without one and the application is invalid: it is treated as never made, so you lose the time and start again, and if you are already in Australia you get no bridging visa and can become unlawful.
